Our mom, Nancy Brooks Byard, passed from this life on February 8, 2025 after 90 years of LIVING. She was born on May 22, 1934, the daughter of Arthur and Blanche (Kincaid) Brooks. Mom graduated from Bangor High School and went on to graduate from St. Joseph Hospital's LPN and RN programs while raising her six children. She was proud of her career in nursing which spanned all the way from labor and delivery to hospice care and everything in between. Mom dabbled in painting, quilting, ceramics, gardening and enjoyed learning technology - becoming an IPAD wiz to the very end! She enjoyed many summers at camp on Molasses Pond with family/friends and Boyd Lake with her friends Ray, Bunny and Gay. The Thibodeau, Smith and Stevenson families provided hours of laughter and fun.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her son, James Byard Jr. and his beautiful wife Susan Sassi Byard; as well as the father of her children, James Byard Sr. She is survived by her beloved sister, Joyce Englehardt and brother-in-law Guy with whom she enjoyed many fun, adventurous Florida years. Nancy and Joyce considered themselves the Sweet Pea Twins, death will not separate them. She also leaves her greatest joys, her children Patricia Byard, Elizabeth Byard and partner Morag Robertson; Jeffery Byard and wife Tikie, Renae Byard, Shirley Ripley and husband, Brent; as well as her wonderful grandchildren, Aaron Rogers, Tessa Byard, Jesse Byard (Gina McCarthy), Brenna (Ryan) Parent , David Williams, Alyson (Erik) Poland, Christopher Ripley and Shawn Ripley (Ashley Burns) and great-grandchildren, Harley Rogers (Sam Neil), Andrew and Jackson Hastings, Jameson, Mayve and Lily Parent. She leaves her sister in law, Vera Byard and her nephews and niece.
Thank you to mom's Ross Manor family who cared for her with love these past five years sharing their lives with her. She continued to teach nursing from her bed and to share her wicked sense of humor.
A graveside service will be held 11am, Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Fairview Cemetery in Veazie, Maine.
Gifts in Nancy's memory may be made to the Animal Orphanage of Old Town or a charity of choice.
"Please do not mourn for me as I am where I am meant to be. A new beginning is now before me, who knows what it will be. I go willingly around the bend, for my journey here has now come to an end."
