Nancy S. Carmichael
Hermon
Nancy S. Carmichael was born on March 10, 1936, to Guilford Monroe Smith and Caroline Folger Smith of Castle Hill, ME. She made her journey home to the Lord on July 3, 2024, after a brief stay at St. Joe's Hospital, where she received exceptional care and was surrounded by her family around the clock in her final days.
Nancy may be described by some as a pillar in her family. She was the glue, the tradition keeper, and a devoted member of the Catholic Church. Nancy spent several years working in various positions. She started at Pine Street Elementary School in Presque Isle as a school secretary where she had a positive effect on staff and students. She then worked at Carl Smith Foods first in Presque Isle then after moving to Hermon in the Bangor office. After retirement, volunteered at the EMMC gift shop, as well as many years in a kindergarten classroom at Hermon Elementary School, even long after her grandchildren had moved beyond kindergarten.
Nancy was predeceased by the love of her life, Ronald Carmichael, both parents and nine siblings: Morris, Agatha, Ransford, Crystal, Charles, Lucy, Catherine, Richard, and Connie. She is survived by her son, Brian Carmichael, his wife Kathy, and their children Joe & Diana Carmichael and Kelsey Carmichael; her daughter Jill Guerrette, her husband Randy, and their children Liza and Matt Phair, Lindsey and Ryan Griffiths, and Heidi Guerrette and Chris Ryan, and her daughter Joni Buck, her husband Jason, and their children Taylor and Stephen Sharrow, and Morgan and Trevor DeLaite. She also leaves behind twelve beloved great-grandchildren: Dylan, Brielle, Grayson, Callyn, Cohen, Ezra, Millie, Emma, Ellie, John, Evelyn, and Luke. She is also survived by her sister Lynne Smith, and her family as well as many special nieces, nephews, and great friends Joe and Gloria Olore.
Words cannot fully encompass the depth of her impact, love, and devotion, but as a result, we will continue to benefit from the generational blessings she bestowed upon us.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am. Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio St., Bangor. The Rite of Committal will be held 12:00 Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Ave., Augusta, ME.
