Bangor – Nora Snow Bemis, 85, passed away June 13, 2018 at a healthcare facility following a brief illness. She was born in 1933, in Levant, the daughter of Gardner and Edith (Phillips) Overlock. Nora was a homemaker, who loved cooking, often making specialty cakes for her family and friends on holidays and birthdays. She also enjoyed crocheting, and especially spending time camping with her family and friends. Nora was a creative and talented gardener, a “Johnny Appleseed” of sorts, she would throw a seed out her kitchen window and oftentimes would find it would grow. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband’s, Lewis Snow and Cleveland Bemis Sr.; a granddaughter, Carrie Ann Thayer; and a brother, Alvin Overlock. Nora is survived by her daughter, Debra Thayer and her husband, Frank, of Hermon; sister, Grace Savage and her husband, Bob, of Walterboro, South Carolina; brother, Eddie Overlock Sr. and his wife, Brenda, of Stetson; Sister in law, Janie Overlock, of Somerville, South Carolina; Step Children, Cleveland Jr. of Veazie, Richard, Nathan, and Mark Bemis, of Levant, and Robyn Green, of Bangor; as well as several nieces and nephews.A special thank you to Eddie Overlock Jr., and his wife Lisa, of Old Town, who gave so much support and love to Nora in her last days bringing her flowers and special treats, Eddie and Lisa always included her in gatherings at their residence, which she greatly enjoyed and always looked forward to. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Snows Corner Cemetery, Hermon with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, officiating. Following the service, relatives and friends are welcome to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Reception Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
