Norma Bishop

October 30, 1935 — April 27, 2020

Norma Jean Bishop 84, longtime resident of Hampden, Maine, died unexpectedly on April 27, 2020 at her home. Norma was born October 30, 1935 to Charles and Florence (Foss) Lowell of Old Town, Maine.

Norma graduated from Old Town High School, Class of 1953. Norma married Albert Bishop (of LaGrange, Maine) in 1959 and together they raised 5 children. They spent summers at Cold Stream Pond in Enfield, Maine which continues to be a gathering place for the family.

Norma worked at many different places but the most important things in her life were her family. She loved coming together as a family, and food was always involved. She was an incredible cook but in her later years she loved to take the family out for delicious meals.

She also had a special love for all animals, especially cats. Norma and Albert spent many years enjoying adventures with their Shrine friends. Norma was an active member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. Norma spent her time and energy on what mattered most to her. She was a woman of great faith and loved her church family at the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church. She sang in the church choir for many years and upon the loss of her son she became a leader of Compassionate Friends, a group for parents who have lost a child. Norma thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Antique Study Group and the Red Hat Society. For many years Norma was a board member of the Lura Hoit Pool in Hampden.

Norma was predeceased by her husband Albert, son Warren, and brothers Charles (Bill) and Neal Lowell. She leaves behind her children Roger and wife Lise (Hyannis, MA); David and wife Leanne (Hampden); Laura Osborne and husband Robert (Hampden); and Susan Gaines and husband William (Fredericton, NB). She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Ashley, Alan, Josh, Anna, Abbie, Sarah and Kate and great granddaughter Makayla, as well as her special nieces Cathy (Lowell) McKeown and Cindy (Lowell) O’Brien.
