Norma Arlene Coffey, 80, passed away December 2, 2016, at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She was born July 23, 1936, in Schenectady, NY, the daughter of Norman and Arvilla (Chase) Sylvester.
Norma graduated from Burnt Hills High School in Burnt Hills, NY, class of 1954. Following graduation, she attended Gordon College. Norma married Albert Coffey on March 12, 1955. Norma was a homemaker who supported her husband with the various the churches they served. She was gifted at sharing her faith through her singing and writing. Norma was the center of her family and was never happier than when she was surrounded by them. She was a guiding example to them all. Norma was a member of the American Baptist Women Ministries and worked with youth groups, Sunday schools, and other ladies’ groups in the churches they served in.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Nancy (Sylvester) Burton and Muriel (Sylvester) Morash; and an infant daughter. Surviving, in addition to her husband are sons, Peter Coffey and wife Sherry, Stephen Coffey and wife Elizabeth; daughter Bethany (Coffey) Kennedy and her husband, Stephen; grandchildren, Carlene Coffey, Rebekah Coffey, Katherine Kennedy, Zachary Kennedy, Emily Kennedy, Aaron Coffey, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 PM, Wednesday, December 7, 2016, and 9-10am, Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 10 AM, Thursday, December 8, 2016, with the Rev. Randall Wilbur, pastor of the Essex Street Baptist Church, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share in conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the service.
