Norma Joanne (Finnemore) Ellingwood, 83, passed away Thursday March 19, 2020, at her home in Hampden with her family by her side. Norma was born in Bridgewater August 28, 1936, the daughter of Stanley and Beatrice (Nelson) Finnemore. She graduated from Bridgewater Classical Academy in 1956. Norma met Arthur Ellingwood and they were married in May of 1960. Together they raised three daughters. In addition to being a mom, Norma had many jobs over the years. She was a waitress, a dispatcher for the Hampden Police Dept., a nanny and she also worked for the Hampden Telephone Co. Norma was affectionately known to family and friends as “ meme”, “grammie” and “meme with the white hair”. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. Following all their activities and watching them grow, consumed her attention and filled her heart. In the early 90’s Norma was one of the loyal troop greeters at Bangor Int’l Airport. Norma was an excellent dancer, never passing on the opportunity to cut a rug. She had two very special friends Ginny Deveau and Charlene Jones whom she had many great adventures with. She reconnected with a highschool friend Roland “Barney” Durost, whom she cared very deeply for. Norma was always surrounded by her many kitties as well as enjoying the many birds that would flock to her feeders, especially the cardinals. She even had a few (want to be tame) raccoons that visited regularly. Norma was well known for her famous ladies Christmas party that she hosted for over 30 years. It was a perfect occasion for her to enlighten the ladies with one or more of her little ditties. Norma definitely had a very colorful sense of humor. Norma was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her three brothers, Gary, Dale and Duane Finnemore. She is survived by her three daughters: Debra Pierce and her husband Mark of Hampden, Beth Ellingwood of Hampden and Ann Dunham and her husband Scott of Winterport. Nine grandchildren: Benjamin Pierce and Nicole, Andrew Pierce and Taylor, Amy-jo Pierce, Matthew Pierce and Jessica, Cameron Pierce, Adam Field and partner James, Cody Field, Joshua Dunham and Eric Ellingwood. Five great grandchildren: Jackson, Lily, Cora, Samuel and William. Per Norma’s wishes we will have a Celebration of Life or Party as she called it in the early summer.
