Bangor – On August 1st, 2016 I lost the love of my life, my very best friend, my husband, my soul mate, the father of our children, and Grampy to our grandchildren, great grandchildren and bonus greats. Norman J. Morneault, 85, died at a local healthcare facility after every effort was made to save him. God called Norman home, and with aching hearts we had to let him go.
Norman was born February 4, 1931, in Eagle Lake, to Louis and Clarina (Guimond) Morneault. He moved to Bangor at the age of 12. Norman's father died when Norman was 6 years of age, and his mother remarried. Harry McNally was the best stepfather ever.
Norman attended 5th Street Junior High and then Bangor High School where he was a varsity football player before graduating as an honor student in 1950. Norman had to struggle to learn the English language as he was born to French Canadian parents. English was not the 1st language in his home. He served in the U.S. Army from May of 1952 to April of 1954.
On October 18, 1952 I married my high school sweetheart. Following his return home from England, he worked for many years as a milkman for Footman's Dairy. In May of 1968 he started his own business, Morneault's Service Center. Norman never met an engine he couldn't fix (well, some came in DOA). Norman's business began to suffer after his first stroke in 2004 and was eventually closed on February 14, 2016.
There is not enough space to list all of the wonderful things Norman accomplished. In short he was a talented carpenter, and a master oil burner technician. He was a Senior Little League baseball coach. He loved fishing, especially ice fishing.
Just before his passing, we were searching for just the right home on the ocean in Jonesport. Norman's last month was full of joy and excitement as he found one beautiful home with a barn to die for. Living on the ocean would have been a dream come true for both of us. In fact, Norman was baptized in the cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean at Lamoine State Park on July 4th, 2013, in the precious name of Jesus by Rev. Wade Townley of the First Apostolic Church in Brewer.
Most recently, we were attending Calvary Apostolic Church in Hampden.
Norman and I exchanged so many love letters while he was stationed in Germany and England and I was here in Bangor. We were married for only 10 days when he shipped overseas. My final love letter to you, my love, is that I will always love you. I will never forget your sweet smile. Our final communication, when you couldn't speak anymore, was to give me one last smile. I miss you so much and always will, from "your Patty."
Norman was predeceased by his parents; our adopted son Bobby Young; his eldest sister Verna and her husband Harold Labbee; his brother and sister-in-law Loman and Patricia; and his sisters-in-law Phyllis and Barbara Morneault.
He is survived by myself, Patricia (Woodard) Morneault; by one sister, Jaunita Castle of Columbus, Ohio; 3 brothers Gilman Morneault of Bangor, Llewellyn Morneault of Glenburn, and Harry McNally Jr. of New Hampshire. He was also survived by his four beautiful children: Gail Plummer and her husband Thomas, Laurie Coffin and her husband Kevin, Scott Morneault and significant other Sharon, and Daniel Morneault and his wife Trish. He was survived by 10 granddaughters, who were very precious and dear to him: Shannon O'Neill, Kristen Brasslett, Amanda Morin, Audreigh Morris, Jamie-Lynn Giuffrida, Angela Coffin, Melodie Farren, Ashley Coffin, Kati Morneault, and Emilié Morneault. He was survived by two grandsons Zachary Morneault and Josh Coffin who also were dear to him. He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren, three "bonus" grandchildren, and three "bonus" great grandchildren. He's also survived by several nieces and nephews, and his precious little Shih-Tzu, Zoey Girl; his special friends Owen (Bud) and Lorna Young, John and Ruth Snell, and Lester and Jeanette Lord.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2016, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Calvary Apostolic Church, 24 Crosby Way in Hampden (just off I-395, on Route 202 past the business industrial park) with Pastor Thomas Channell officiating. Interment will be immediately following the service in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. Those who wish to remember Norman in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Calvary Apostolic Church or the Maine Veteran's Home-Bangor, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
