Norris Wessel

Blue Hill - Norris "Noddy" D. Wessel Sr. died peacefully October 7, 2024, at his home in Blue Hill. He was born May 7, 1932, in Blue Hill, the son of Philip D. and Mary (Ober) Wessel.

Noddy graduated from George Stevens Academy, class of 1950. Following graduation, he began working with his father at P.D. Wessel and Sons doing stone masonry. He took great pride in doing quality work throughout Hancock County. Noddy married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Christy on October 20, 1950.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Elaine, are his three sons and their wives, Norris "Nods" Jr. and Lori, Jeffrey and Anita, Terry and Roberta, all from Blue Hill. Noddy adored his family and treasured his grandchildren, Jesse and wife, Nina, Joel and wife, Alexandra, Blake, Lexi and her partner, Ethan. He proudly welcomed great-grandchildren, Tilden, Minot, Porter, Dominique and Ellis. In addition to his parents, Noddy was predeceased by sisters, Doris, Cindy and Irene; brother, Tilden; and a special great-granddaughter, Hunter.

Noddy was an athlete in high school, and was proud to be a part of the basketball team that won the state championship in 1948. He was community oriented; serving on the school board as well as being a 70 year Free Mason with Ira Berry Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, boating, and woodworking. Noddy and Elaine enjoyed having cookouts and lobster feeds for family and friends at their camp on the Eggemoggin Reach in Brooklin.

The family will be forever grateful to have had the support of caring and compassionate caregivers over the past few weeks. Those who wish to remember Noddy in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Ave., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
