Olive Paulina Peters, 89, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2021, at a Bangor hospital. She was born on October 6, 1931, in Whitneyville, and the daughter of Wilfred A. and Ruth O. (Hasty) McReavy.
She graduated from Machias High School. She married John Peters on August 1, 1959. They were married for 52 years until John passed away in 2011. Together they owned and operated the Country Squire store in Holden for many years which was known for its Italian sandwiches known as the Fireball. John and Olive also built and operated the Peakes Hill Lodge which had a variety of bands for public dances and the pizzas she made were the best. It was thought that they built the Lodge so they would have a venue for their own floor for dancing together, which is something they both thoroughly enjoyed. Olive was also a longtime member of the Dedham Congregational Church, where she enjoyed going to the delicious bean suppers.
She is survived by her children; Wayne Jamieson and wife, Deborah, of Dedham, Jerry Jamieson and wife, Tamra, of Bangor, Scott Peters and wife, Beth, of Falmouth; a sister, Doris Mawhinney of Millinocket; loving grandchildren, David, Heather, Jarrod, Zachary, Seth, Kristen and Brandon; very close friends, Mickey Smith and Deloris Thibodeau; and several special great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her dear husband, John Peters, she was predeceased by two brothers, Paul McReavy and Ralph McReavy as well as a son, Bernard Jamieson.
At the time of her death, she resided at Woodlands Senior Living in Brewer. Prior to that she resided at Ellen M. Leach Memorial Home in Brewer and Winterberry Heights in Bangor. Olive especially enjoyed the time she spent at the Ellen M. Leach Memorial Home where she made many special friends, old and new. She very much enjoyed the frequent get togethers in the lobby with her friends to talk about the day.
Olive’s greatest joys were her family, friends and church. She enjoyed every minute she had with her loving grandchildren and family. She enjoyed visiting with her friends and winning a card game or two with Mickey. She was a kind, caring and thoughtful lady and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Olive’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Woodlands Senior Living, Ellen M. Leach Memorial Home and Winterberry Heights for their care and support of Olive during her time at their facilities.
Friends may gather with the family from 2-4 PM, Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, July 19, 2021.
