Orrington – Orin Delmar “Del” Fogg, 88, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015, at a Bangor hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in South Portland, January 13, 1927, the son of Elton Darling Fogg and Lulu Idella (Campbell) Fogg.
Del attended Bangor schools and was a graduate of Bangor High School, class of 1944, and Husson College, Bangor in 1948.
Mr. Fogg served as a Fireman, First Class, and Electrician’s Mate in the US Navy in World War II serving on the USS Otus in the Leyte Gulf, and during the Korean Conflict on the USS Delta earning World War II Victory Metal, American Area Theatre Metal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal and Good Conduct Ribbon during his eight years of Naval service. It was a favorite pastime in recent years to share stories of his Navy days with anyone who would listen. A special memory of his was his trip to the newly constructed World War II Memorial in Washington DC on the first veteran’s honor flight from Maine in October 2005.
He worked for his parents at Fogg’s Grocery at Eddington Bend where he also ran a gas station and TV and radio repair business for several years. He was employed with New England Telephone and Telegraph Company and was an electrician at the University of Maine at Orono for twenty-nine and a half years. He kept his Master’s Electrician license current for many years after his retirement.
He was a member of the State and National Grange, the Rising Virtue Lodge, # 10, AF & AM, of Bangor and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Del will be remembered for his ability to fix anything and doing things his way. He was a train enthusiast who was especially fond of steam locomotives, loved Christmas lighting and decorations and was a devoted grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Dudley Fogg, his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Alan Hanscom of Andover, NH, his son Gary and fiancé Jennifer Anderson of Eddington and three grandchildren, Megan Nicole and Erin Rachel Hanscom of Andover, NH, and Alexander Colby Fogg of Bucksport.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the Brookings-Smith reception rooms immediately following the service Monday.
Interment with Military Honors will be held in the spring at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, at a date and time to be announced.
