Oscar Delmont Spencer, 87, passed away peacefully, April 28, 2020, at the Maine Veterans’ Home with his loving family by his side. He was born May 9,1932, in New Limrick, the son of the late Oscar Delmont Spencer Sr. and Amy (Lawton) Spencer.
After graduating from Hampden Academy, Oscar served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. When he returned, Oscar attended Beal College and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He worked many years at Bean and Conquest and then at DHHS.
In 1961, Oscar married Jean Mushrow and settled in Hampden, Maine. Oscar had a love of music and played in a band since high school. His band, Del and the Shadowcasters, played at many Saturday night dances around the state of Maine.
Oscar had two favorite hobbies, flying his airplane and camping with his family and friends. Often finding special places to hunt and fish. After retiring, Oscar and Jean spent many years traveling to Zephyrhills, Florida to spend the winter.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jean (Mushrow) Spencer; sisters, Irene Ryder and Freda Wilcox; and a brother, Jim Spencer.
Oscar is survived by his son, Ricky Spencer and wife, Althea; two grandchildren, Hunter and Amy; and a sister, Hazel Ryder.
The family would like to thank the “B Unit” staff at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor for the love and care they have given Oscar. A special “thank you” to Alyssa, Karissa and Marie for the compassionate care they provided.
Funeral services will be private. Gifts in Oscar’s memory may be made to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave, Bangor, ME 04401.
