He left Martin Aircraft when the Soviet Union launched the first Sputnik in Oct 1957, causing military priorities to change from the aircraft he was working on to satellites. He was hired by W Jerome Strout, President of the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad Co. in Nov 1957 as an Assistant Engineer, and the youngest supervisor in the history of the Co. at the time. He enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing, genealogy, computers, painting, and, in retirement, was a member of several senior golf groups both in Maine and Florida where he became acquainted with many remarkable people. In 2001 he developed a senior golf league at Rocky Knoll Country Club in Orrington, ME, still active today. He shot two hole-in-ones! He entertained others with his various bear encounters proudly noting that he has never had to shoot one.
