Patricia Jeffrey

October 11, 1928 — November 2, 2021

Patricia Warren Jeffrey, 93, died November 2nd at home after a period of declining health due to dementia. She was born October 11th, 1928 in Springfield, Vermont, the daughter of Hazel and Harold Warren of Chester, Vermont.

Pat graduated from Chester High School in 1946, then attended the University of Vermont where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Pat married the love of her life, Wallace “Bud” Jeffrey in 1948, and they raised three sons living in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine as Bud rose through the professional ranks of the Boy Scouts of America.

Music was a big part of her life, singing in choirs from childhood until she was well into her 70’s. Pat was a devoted member of the Hampden Congregational Church, often working at church suppers and food pantries. Her bible study group was a big part of her life, especially after Bud died in 2009.

Pat spent 15 years as a secretary and bookkeeper for her husband and best friend Bud, as he developed the Maine National High Adventure, Boys Scouts of America, in northern Maine. Being very smart and creative, she was the brains behind the communications and letter writing of the Maine High Adventure Program. After their retirement in 1985, Pat and Bud worked together collecting and selling Antiques and Collectibles and had booths in many shops throughout Maine. At the same time, they had fun cross country skiing, playing golf with friends, while also enjoying their growing family of five grandchildren. She loved making braided rugs which were gems that have graced many of the families’ homes. Her rug making skills were recognized at the Hampden Historical Society when frequently she was asked to demonstrate the Braided Rug process.

Her favorite family traditions were; regular Saturday night homemade baked beans and hot dog suppers with the family gathered, knitting beautiful handmade sweaters, sewing suit coats, and Christmas morning strawberry shortcake before the family tree.

She is survived by; son Michael Jeffrey and his wife Alayna, son David Jeffrey, grandchildren, Jay, Ryan, Kyle, Clara and Ben and great grandchildren, Kiernan, Killian, Sloan, Shaye, and Walter. She is also survived by her younger brother Prescott Warren, his wife Joanne, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband “Bud” in 2009, her eldest son Jay in 1976, and brother Winston Warren in 2009. A graveside service will be held in Chester, Vermont on a date to be determined. Then she will be buried next to her loving husband Bud, and son Jay.

Pat was a sweet, kind, loving soul who will be missed by all the members of the family. She had a quiet optimistic view of life. She was always giving herself and time to others, from preparing strawberries for the Church Booth at the American Folk Festival, to baking dozens of Pot Pies for numerous Church Suppers. Pat Jeffrey was one of a kind.

Gifts in her memory may be made to the Maine High Adventure Staff Association, 402 Metcalf Road, Winthrop, ME 04364.
