Bangor – Patricia (Parkhurst) Gee Pickard, wife of Carroll R. Pickard, went home to Jesus and reunite with her beloved family in Heaven February 17, 2019 in Bangor. She was born on November 20, 1931 in Bangor, the daughter of Leon E. and Vernice (Batchelder) Parkhurst.
Patricia was educated at Bangor schools and graduated from Bangor High School in 1949. In 1950, she married Donald M. Gee, formerly of Andover, New Brunswick, and lived in the Bangor area until Donald passed away in 1984.
Patricia was bookkeeper at Fox & Ginn Moving & Storage Co., and later, payroll bookkeeper at Diamond International Corp. She also worked in the office of Viner Shoe Factory. She was a member of Glad Tidings Church in Bangor for many years. Patricia was extensively involved with Channel 17, "The Door of Faith," a Christian television station that was established in the Bangor area.
Patricia later married Carroll Pickard, owner of Pleasant Hill Dairy in Hermon, and moved from her home in Glenburn to Hermon. In 1998, Carroll and Patricia moved to Barrington, Rhode Island, where they volunteered at Zion Bible College.
Because of Patricia's interest in history, she was a member of several historical societies, including State of Maine, Bangor, Hermon, Levant, Assemblies of God Historical Society, Pentecostal Historical Society, and more. She was very active in preserving history and contributed to historical preservation of other towns in the Bangor area. In 2004, Patricia donated a major Maine and personal family collection to the Bangor Room at the Bangor Public Library, and a major Pentecostal collection to the Flower Pentecostal Heritage Society in Springfield, Missouri. Further, Fuller Theological seminary in Pasadena, California acquired a major part of Patricia's personal Christian archival collection. Glad Tidings Church in Bangor was given a large collection of material pertaining to that church, as well as other area Pentecostal works.
Patricia authored and self-published a book entitled, “Voices of Pentecost in Bangor, Maine,” plus several minor compositions which included articles, tracts, booklets, and poems. She worked with her pastor, the Reverend James E. Peters, publishing a history of Pentecost in Maine entitled, “Prevailing Westerlies.” She also worked with the Rev. Mary Campbell Wilson to publish “The Obedience of Faith,” the story of Rev. Christine A. Gibson, founder of what became Zion Bible College, now NorthPoint Bible College. Patricia co authored,” Levant, Maine; A History,” with Lynn Rogers and edited, “Hermon, Maine-Then and Now.” She also has done extensive literary work on a woman evangelist, Kathryn Kuhlman.
While at Zion Bible College, Patricia worked with Dr. N. Benjamin Crandall, president, researching material for his sermons, classes, books, and autobiography. Beyond this, she was chosen to be historian and archivist of the College, and was actively involved in acquiring major donations to Zion's archives.
Patricia was predeceased by her parents; her first husband; two brothers, Paul and Nelson Parkhurst; four sisters, Phyllis Mitsch, Shirley Beesley, Mildred Belyea, and Ellen Ruth “Ruthie” Parkhurst; and half-sister, Carol Thompson.
She is survived by her husband, Carroll Pickard of Bangor; three children and their spouses, Barbie (Sadler) and Dr. Elmer Humphrey of Waxahachie, TX, Bonnie and Ronald Erickson of Bay City, WI, and Alan and Rosemary Gee of Phoenix, AZ; three step-children, Bruce Pickard of Davenport, FL, Linda Pickard of Lyman, Maine, and Stephen Pickard of Salt Lake City, Utah; eight grandchildren, Vicki Simmons of Phoenix, AZ, Jeffery Erickson of Phoenix, AZ, Janice Maroney of Wadena, MN, Jennifer Felber of Schneider, IN, Anthony, Bridget, Rosemary, and Luke Gee, all of Arizona; a step-grandson, Derek Pickard of Winchester, VA; ten great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Isma Parkhurst of Orrington.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Glad Tidings Church, 1033 Broadway, Bangor where a funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2019 with the Rev. Ron Morris, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service on Thursday. Interment will be held later this spring in the Waugh Cemetery, Levant.
