November 16, 1942 — March 6, 2023

Patricia “Pat” Stevens
Bangor

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia (Pat) Stevens on March 6, 2023, after a brief illness, in Bangor, with her loving family by her side. She was born November 16, 1942 in San Angelo, Texas, the daughter of Hancel and Ronald Mills. When Ronald retired from the Air Force at Dow Field the family opted to stay in Bangor. Pat attended Bangor Schools and then graduated from the University of Maine in 1964.

At Bangor High she met a classmate, Winfred (Win) Stevens, and from that point on they became a life-long unity, marrying in 1965.

After Maine, Pat taught in the Bangor School system, and then in Lake Butler, Florida, while Win attended law school. They then spent four years in Washington, D. C., where daughters Kathleen (Kassie) and Amy were born. Upon returning to Bangor in 1972, daughter Sara was born and then Pat spent the next several years cherishing the upbringing of the three girls.

In the early 1980’s Pat decided to run for, and was elected to serve, as Representative in the Maine House, where she served for 10 years. During the last year of that service she decided to commute daily from Bangor to Portland to attend the University of Maine School of Law. Upon admission to the Maine Bar, Pat was appointed Assistant Attorney General, handling child protection cases, until retiring in 2012.

During the years of retirement some of her greatest memories were of traveling to China, Greece, Italy, Machu Pichu, the Galapagos, Alaska, Iceland with the girls, winters in Florida; and summers at Camp and Lamoine. She never said “No” to an adventure, big or small. A great enjoyment for her was picking up stones, watering the flowers, watching and feeding the birds, and tending her moss gardens. Her grandchildren, Benjamin, Andrew, Nora, Isabel and Abigail gave her her greatest joy.

Pat’s favorite quote, which she displayed at camp for over forty years, by
Winnie-the-Pooh, was:

“If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together,
keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever.”

Pat is survived by Win, daughters Kassie (husband Jay Brownlee and daughter Nora Zeigler); Amy (husband Chris Brook and sons Benjamin and Andrew); Sara (husband Seth McLain and daughters Isabel and Abigail). She is also survived by brother Melvin (Eddie) Mills (wife Zelda and daughter Patricia) and brother Robert Mills; nephew Ronald (Ronnie) Mills (wife Jazzie); sister-in-law, Nellie Page and niece and nephew Amber Gehr and Kyle Page and their families.

There will be a celebration of life for family and friends 3 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
