Patricia Jones Totman, 95, of Hampden, Maine has gone home to her Lord. She lived life to the fullest and every day brought enthusiasm and joy to those around her. For sixty-two years, Patricia starred in an incredible love story with Bob. They adored each other and built a strong unit centered around church and family. Bob was a musician and Pat a singer and each were the other's biggest cheerleader.
She grew up in a musical family where it was common to stand around the piano and sing beautiful harmony. Throughout her life, she sang in church choirs (St. John's Episcopal Church 1939 - 2020) and many choral groups, including U.M.O.'s Oratorio Society, Bangor Community Chorus, and the Robert Coller Singers.
Patricia was a teacher at heart. Following in her dad's footsteps, she taught at Hampden Academy specializing in sewing. She taught swimming, as well as directing the Hampden Academy chorus. She later got her realtor's license, and became an instructor to new realtors at E.R.A. Dawson Co.
Pat and Bob agreed that the money she earned would be used for play and play we did! Her family enjoyed yearly trips to Florida, Bermuda, Washington D.C., and many other places every April vacation. We skied at Squaw in the winter and played on Branch Lake every summer, the two of them working side by side to make these extras possible.
Sitting idle was not Patricia's thing, unless she was reading a good book and then she would sit till the wee hours of the morning to finish it. She always loved gardening and was a member of the Hampden Garden Club. In her retirement years, she became a Master Gardener through the University. She took lessons from the Wendell Gilley Museum and blessed all of her loved ones with beautifully carved birds. Patricia loved performing and participated in many plays with her friends in Shakespeare Club. There was not a part she wouldn't tackle with gusto!
Despite her many pursuits, family was always her priority. Being on Jones Point, surrounded by her children, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren playing in and on the water was her happy place. Camp was home every summer for over seventy years. Decorating for and hosting holiday parties for family and friends was when her personality came to life - there was never an occasion too small. Supporting her eight grandchildren in all their athletic and musical pursuits was her favorite activity. She was so proud of their accomplishments. She sewed quilts for each of them when they graduated from high school, and took pride in creating a special wedding cake for them as they started their own families.
She is survived by: her four children, Jeff Totman, Jo-Anna (Totman) Wilson and husband, Michael, Jo-Linda (Totman) Jenkins and her husband Tommy, and Elizabeth Totman.
Seven grandchildren, Joshua Jenkins (wife Dawn), Emily (Jenkins) Shaw (husband Rick) Abigail (Jenkins) Guerin (husband Peter), Michael Jenkins (wife Ashley) Hilarie (Wilson) Galloway (husband Ethan), Jennifer Wilson (husband Will) and John Wilson. Eight great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Lydiah, Aiden, Natalie, Elena, Michael, Maverick, and Paul. A special sister-in-law, Charlene Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Judy; her parents and three brothers, and a grand-daughter, Karla Wilson.
A funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 225 French St., Bangor, with the Rev. James Nutter officiating. Those who wish to remember Patricia in a special way may contribute to Lafayette Family Cancer Center; 33 Whiting Hill Road Ste. 21, Brewer, Maine 04412.
