Patricia June Wallace
Bangor and Ellsworth – Patricia June Wallace, two weeks shy of 91, died peacefully on Sunday, June 4 in Bangor. Pat was born on June 22, 1932, in Old Town. She was the daughter of George Herbert Wallace and Adelaide Janet (Pettipas) Wallace.
Pat grew up in Orono and Bangor with her parents and sisters, Geraldine Wallace Williams and Helen Wallace Munsey. They first lived on the family farm on Stillwater Avenue and Pat attended Orono Elementary School. The family then moved to Bangor where she graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1950. Pat then attended the University of Maine, Class of 1954, graduating with a B.A. in English Literature.
After graduating from the University of Maine, Pat moved to Boston where she worked for Trans World Airlines, TWA. She then moved to New York City working for TWA and then for the Ford Foundation. She worked in the travel industry for many years and traveled all over the world. The favorite family photo of Pat, all five feet tall of her, is when she was on the back of a camel in Egypt in the late 1950’s. She was fearless and determined throughout her entire life.
Pat returned to Maine in the mid 1960’s to be closer to family. She first settled in Augusta where she managed a travel agency and got involved in state politics. She then moved to Lamoine and worked for an Ellsworth travel agency, eventually getting involved in real estate and a variety of other business ventures. She was very active in the Ellsworth community including the Hancock County Democratic Committee, the Ellsworth Library, the Lit Club, and Friends in Action.
Pat loved to travel, she loved books and art, and was an accomplished artist herself. She loved spending time at the ocean and enjoying a well-made lobster roll. She loved good food and whenever she had the opportunity to have a crabmeat eggs benedict from Martha’s Diner she would exclaim “Ooo, Ooo!” before digging in. She had a great laugh and if there was music playing she would be up dancing in a heartbeat. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Pat is survived by her sister Gerry Williams and husband Bob of Marlboro, niece Julia Munsey and husband John Dougherty of Bangor, nephew Stephen Munsey, and partner Jill Irish of Salt Lake City, Utah, nephew Fred Williams, and partner Sylvia Stevens of Portland and Columbus,OH, nephew Russ Williams and wife Diana of Newcastle and The Villages, FL., as well as a great niece and great nephews. Special cousins Mary Talley and Emily Talley Muise, Trenton. Lifelong friends Donna Thorburn, Lamoine, Sally Gibson, Bangor, Beverly Bustin-Hathaway, Augusta.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kathryn Rensenbrink and Brandy McAllian at Northern Light Health for their long-term compassionate care of Pat. In addition, heartfelt thanks go to Pat’s care team at Kindred Home Healthcare, Gentiva Hospice, and Stillwater Health Care, especially nurse Jen. Thanks also go to Friends in Action for all of your support in helping Pat remain in her home and stay connected to the community.
A celebration of life will be held this summer, near the ocean, complete with lobster rolls as Pat would have wanted. Pat will be buried next to her parents in Lamoine.
