Patrick Joseph Smith, Jr.
March 4, 1976 – December 27, 2020
GLENBURN – Patrick “Pat” J. Smith, Jr., 44, died unexpectedly on December 27, 2020 at a hospital in Texas. His sudden passing is a tremendous loss for family and friends.
Patrick was born on March 4, 1976 in Taunton, Massachusetts the son of Patrick J. and Karen L. (Bickford) Smith. ‘Little Pat’ moved to Maine with his parents at the age of 5 where he was ready to take on the world that first day of kindergarten at the Knowlton School in Ellsworth. Patrick had already made three new friends within the first 5 minutes with his infectious smile and already visible Irish charm.
A 1994 graduate of Ellsworth High School, Patrick was a member of the soccer, indoor track, and outdoor track teams for the Class B Champion Ellsworth Eagles. He was an avid athlete with a competitive nature always striving for his personal best, but also encouraging teammates to work towards their fullest potential as well. Patrick received many accolades for setting school records as a pole vaulter.
Patrick earned a business degree from the University of Maine in Orono. He started his career in the world of finance working as a loan officer, and then as a branch manager for a variety of mortgage companies. Patrick brought his competitive nature and enthusiasm for life along with him into the business world, where he also earned many accolades including the distinction of the top Branch Manager for Aegis Lending. Patrick was a highly motivated and intelligent person who had a knack for business. He took his younger brother, Jeremiah, under his wing to teach him the world of business, finance, and Real Estate. This led to them becoming affiliated branch partners together with their own branch of Key Financial Corporation in Bangor, Maine.
Patrick had aspirations of becoming a small business entrepreneur from an early age. When he was in middle school, he would take his lunch money to buy candy and then sell it at school for a profit. Perhaps his greatest quest that led to his final journey as a business entrepreneur was the creation of his business ‘Luck of the Irish’. Patrick took great pride in helping others as a licensed care giver.
With his magnetic personality, and an abundance of energy, Patrick just filled a room. In addition to his love for sports, both as an athlete and as a fan; his love for the world of business and crunching numbers; there was always a special place in his heart for family. His sister Tamara still considers him to have been her birthday present on her second birthday. They were two years apart to the day, looking out for each other as they were growing up even as an alter server team at St. Joseph’s Parish in Ellsworth. His baby brother Jeremiah came along seven years later. Pat took him under his wing not only in the business world, but earlier even to teach him the ins and outs of track & field, along with many other ‘life lessons’. Pat met his first wife, Angie, in college. Angie and Pat had two children together and they meant the world to him. As an uncle he never hesitated to do the ‘chicken dance’ with his nieces or walk on his hands for them, or win that special prize out of the claw machine for whichever little one asked. The second chapter of Patrick’s life began when he met and married Robin, when there was more room in his heart for his new role as Papa Patrick. Pat and Robin were a wonderful match: partners in life, and partners in business.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Robin Lawler-Smith, of Glenburn; his son and ‘best buddy’ Aidan Smith, and his daughter Olivia Smith, both of Bangor; his step-daughter Madeline Lawler, of Hondo, Texas; his step-son, Adam Rosenberg, of Glenburn; and two step-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his mother, Karen Smith, of Bangor; his sister, Tamara Tureli and her husband Cenk of Istanbul, Turkey; his brother Jeremiah Smith and his fiancé Mandy Farrington of Lincoln; and a large family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout the country; as well as Istanbul, Turkey.
He was predeceased by his father, Patrick J. Smith, Sr., of Ellsworth.
Patrick, Pat, “little Pat” … We will miss your infectious smile and the way you lived life to the fullest in every endeavor you encountered. You will be missed immensely!!
