Paul Rideout

April 9, 1938 — December 10, 2018

Paul Hudson Rideout Jr., 80, passed away at home December 10, 2018. He was born April 9, 1938 in Brewer, Maine the son of Paul Hudson Rideout Sr. and Celia “Sally” (Gordon) Rideout.

Paul grew up in Veazie where he enjoyed living close to the Penobscot River. He would be found having adventures outside in the woods playing with friends and causing childhood mischief. In his youth, he was a paperboy serving the entire town of Veazie, a place he was so fond of and had many wonderful memories while growing up.

In his teens, Paul moved to Houston, Texas with his father. After finishing High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his Country for ten proud years. He was stationed in Okinawa where he was a proud canine handler in the Military Police where he guarded Military planes and weapons. While serving in Okinawa, Paul met his lifelong best friend and “brother” Antonio “Tony” Gonzales who was known as “Uncle Tony” to Paul’s children and grandchildren.

Paul transferred to Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine where he met the love of his life, Carolyn “Carol” Blake. They wed on February 12, 1965 in Hermon, Maine. One week after their marriage, he retired from the Air Force. They moved to Texas so Paul could attend college where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Paul later told family that marrying Carol was the best decision he had ever made. They returned to Bangor, Maine in 1970 because it was important for Paul to raise his children in his beloved home State.

He was proud to serve as the Deputy Finance Director for the City of Bangor for over 25-years. He stepped in as the Finance Director during a period of Bangor City revitalization before he retired.

Paul was hard working, dedicated and always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors; he kept a meticulous home and was an avid reader. Paul enjoyed politics, bird watching, football and his beloved Connecticut Huskies Women’s Basketball. Paul’s favorite pastimes included going to the family camp that he helped his father and brothers build on Molasses Pond in Eastbrook, Maine; visiting with his large family; completing projects around his home; researching the Rideout family genealogy and studying maps. His love for all of these things was only surpassed by the love he felt for Jesus. Nothing made Paul more joyous than learning someone he cared for found Christ.

In addition to his parents, Paul is predeceased by beloved son, Deven; brothers, Donald “Donnie” and Stuart; brother in law, James Blake and Rico Martinez; sister, Marcia Clark; best friend, Tony and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Carolyn and their sweet dog Angel; daughter, Paula Rideout and her children Rachel, Michelle and Jared Karam; daughter, Marcy Bridges and her husband, Kent and children, Ayla Alyssa, Evan Rideout and Trevor Hudson Allen; son, Jim E., and his children, Alexis, Alexandra and Marie “Maria” Rideout; granddaughter, Sophia Rideout, daughter of the late Deven; sister, Marjorie “Margie” Martinez; brother, Gordon “Lefty”; brother in law, Roland “Sonny” Clark, and many nieces, nephews and other loved ones too numerous to name.
