Paul Allen Weeks, Esq., 70, died peacefully with family by his side Friday, December 1, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor following complications from a fall while walking his dog, Professor, fondly known as “Prof,” in Fairmount Park. Paul was born February 17, 1953, in Portland, the son of Dr. Allen and Helen Weeks, and was raised in South Paris.
He graduated from Oxford Hills High School, Class of 1971, Bowdoin College, Class of 1975 and the University of Maine School of Law in Portland in 1980. Through mutual friends while at Bowdoin, Paul met and later married Johanna “Gig” Cobb of Longboat Key, Florida, who was attending Smith College in Northampton, Mass. Paul practiced law in Bath before moving to Bangor in 1985 where he practiced until his retirement.
In 2013 Paul had surgery for a spinal fistula which necessitated the use of a Rolator, but it did not prevent him from doing many of the activities he loved, including driving to visit dear friends and family out-of-state. He was an outdoorsman who loved to canoe and, especially, ski. While in high school, he joined the National Ski Patrol at Mount Abram Ski Area in Greenwood and, even this past winter, was still skiing at Sugarloaf and Sunday River as part of Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation Association with the help of his longtime ski buddy, Daniel Boutin of Portland.
In recent years he enjoyed volunteering as a SCORE mentor and working with the Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project. A fine writer who especially enjoyed adding a little humor in letters or readings, Paul never failed to come up with great (but often lengthy!) expressions about politics, nature, and the state of the world.
Paul was predeceased by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his sisters, Janet Foster and husband Ed of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his sister Joni Averill White and husband Ralph, of Bangor; his daughter, Abagail Weeks of Bangor; his son and wife, Nathaniel and Catherin Weeks and his grandchildren, Lillian and Philip of Bedford, N.H.; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Susie Tomanoff of Bedford, N.H and Laurie Cobb of Culemborg, Netherlands; their husbands and families.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM, Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor. Gifts in his memory may be sent to Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation, PO Box #853, Bethel, ME 04217. His ashes will be scattered at a later date to join his late wife. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
