Paulette Free

July 16, 1949 — May 7, 2015

VEAZIE - Paulette A. Free, 65, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass, May 7, 2015. Though Paulette beat cancer for the third time, her body was tired and ready to finally rest. She was born on July 16, 1949, in Bangor, the daughter of Donald V. Dionne Sr. and Anna (Currier) Dionne.
Graduating from Orono High School she was recognized by many as one of the “Dionne twins”. She had a special bond with her sister, Paula, and told many stories of their practical jokes, a favorite being the year that they switched dates at their prom. Her love of children brought her to a career in the preschool/daycare profession at Discovery House and YWCA in Bangor, where she thrived. Paulette enjoyed dancing, camping, and horse races with her “other-half”, Ron. She loved knitting, yard sailing, the Patriots, soaking in the sun, QVC, HGTV, Garth Brooks, vanilla milkshakes, and Pat’s Pizza’s “Waist Watchers Pizza” with double dough, double cheese. She could melt your heart with her smile and her innocent ways. Most of all Paulette enjoyed time with her family and all the children in her life. She had a special mother’s bond with her handicapped daughter, Terri, and spent much time making sure she was well loved, cared for, and happy. “Nana” lived for her grandchildren and spent endless hours playing, crafting, shopping, and laughing with all of them. She made sure that all of the children in her life were loved equally. The family of Paulette wishes to extend special “thank-you’s” to Dr. Antoine Harb and the staff at Cancer Care of Maine, and Dr. Thomas Clancy, his team, and the many “nurse angels” at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Adam, a twin sister, Paula, and sister, Ann Marie. She is survived by her 20 year partner and “other-half”, Ronald McComb Jr. of Veazie, daughter, Sherelle McIntyre and her husband Alfred of Newburgh, daughter, Tiffany Free of Bangor, daughter, Terri Free of Eddington , “children at heart”, Christina, Daniel, and Adrian McComb, one sister, Patricia Treadwell and her husband, Stephen, of Madison, one brother, Donald V. Dionne Jr. of Carmel, grandchildren, Alyssa and her husband, Benjamin, Breanne, Britney, Daymion, Kallie, Kelsey, a grandchild on the way, Alice Rose, named in her honor, great-grandson, Grayson, special friends, Peggy and Lilly, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14 with Pastor Matthew Ward, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. following the service. A private burial will follow for family in Lincoln.
