PAULINE CLEMENT BARRON,
HAMPDEN
Pauline C. Barron, 94, died peacefully at Eastern Maine Medical Center on September 28th, under exceptional medical and nursing care after a brief illness related to a preexisting condition. She was a March baby, daughter of Martha (Mansur) and Phillip Poindexter Clement; granddaughter of Wilfred E. and Charlotte Mansur.

She is predeceased by son William D. Barron Jr., her sisters and their spouses, Charlotte (Clement) Hanscom, Elmer Hanscom, Barbara (Clement) Brewer, and Herbert Van Sant Brewer, two nephews, Gary and Dennis Barron.

Surviving in addition to Bill the love of her life, is Sharonlee (Barron) Trefry of Vermont and husband Jonathan Trefry, John Barron and wife Kathy Barron of Bangor, and Jeff Barron and wife Lori Barron of Falmouth, Maine. The truly-grandchildren are Isaac Barron, Rhianna Bernal, Amy Butterfield, John Butterfield, and Cameron Trefry. There are seven “great” grandchildren, six beloved nieces and nephews and numerous camp neighborhood children who called her their second family.

Polly graduated from Oak Grove Academy for Girls, class of 1946, and then attended the University of Maine where she met, then married William D. Barron at All Souls Church in Bangor. They moved to Corvallis, OR where she started nursing school. Their first child was born before moving back to Maine where they had three more children, and recently celebrated 72 years of marriage.

Polly was a wonderful mother, homemaker, outdoors person of many passions enjoyed at the Mansur family camp on Philips Lake. She could be found on Sunday afternoons captaining her day-sailor on Philips Lake for a win in the regatta. She loved the call of the loons, wild blueberry pie, and simply being in nature at camp watching the hummingbirds circle the flowers. She was active in Junior League, YWCA’s adaptive aquatics program, All Souls Church Women’s Group and church choir, and the beloved P.E.O. She completed her bachelor’s degree in recreational education in her sixth decade. She was an avid hiker in her youth at Camp Natarswi, a horse owner and rider, a tennis player and skier, teaching her children to love the same. She led her children up Mt. Katahdin and Ski-Horse Mountain in Dixmont, and instilled a similar passion for the Mountains, in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Polly had a true zest for life and enjoyed traveling to far reaching parts of the world, skiing in Switzerland, sailing in the Caribbean and cruising through the Panama Canal. Her sewing and knitting skills were legendary and the baby sweaters she created are true heirlooms. She will be remembered for her wonderful gatherings around the grand dining room table in Hampden, with famous dishes of homemade cranberry sauce and grasshopper pie. Tradition reigned in her home. The table setting, the classic dishes, the holiday decorations, were all a part of who she was and what she shared with her family. She loved Trapp Lodge in the winter at Stowe Vermont, encouraging family members to gather every year there. Dinners would last long into the night with family lore like the story of how two of her children broke their legs on the same day, skiing nearby. Her Maine heritage made her the strong, vibrant woman that she was and became an inspiration to those who knew her closely.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 5 to 7 pm. Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at the Hampden Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A funeral service will be held 1 pm. Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at All Souls Congregational Church, Broadway, Bangor.
