Pauline “Polly” Chase Norwood, 91 passed away on December 8, 2020 at her home in Southwest Harbor. She was born on December 2, 1929 in Atkinson, Maine to Henry and Flora (Pratt) Chase.
Polly attended Higgins Classical Institute and then graduated from Foxcroft Academy. The summer before her senior year, she came to Southwest Harbor to work at the Claremont Hotel. While here for the summer, she met her future husband, Maurice Norwood. They were married after her graduation and she and Maurice moved to a small cottage in Hall Quarry and later to Robinson Lane in Southwest Harbor, where they raised their three children. Polly had many jobs throughout her life and for over 43 years was the friendly face who greeted the entire community at the polls and Town Meetings of Southwest Harbor. She loved gardening, mowing all the lawns on the hill, cooking and feeding anyone who stopped by the house, and spending time and laughing with her grandchildren. Polly’s greatest joys have always been her family, her church family, her many friends, and her community. She will be fondly remembered for her energy, smile, contagious giggle, and of course those hugs!
Polly was predeceased by her husband, Maurice and most recently her son, David. Polly is survived by her daughter and loving caregiver, Diane Norwood-Frost; a son, Dan Norwood and wife Bonnie; granddaughters, Sara and Anne Norwood; a grandson, Lucah Stanley and wife Ashley;
great-granddaughter Breanna Stanley and many extended family. Polly is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Stevens; brothers Terry Chase and wife, MaryLou, and Harold Chase and wife, Roxanne; and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be announced by the family at a later date. Gifts in Polly’s memory may be made to the Southwest Harbor Medical Center Clinic Committee, PO Box 526, Southwest Harbor, ME. 04679 or the Southwest Harbor/Tremont Ambulance Service Inc., PO Box 437, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679.
