Pauline “Polly” A. Parsons, 97, passed away November 25, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor. Polly was born November 6, 1918, in Presque Isle. She was the daughter of Harry and Inez (Billings) Allen.
Polly attended Sargent College in Boston, Mass. and graduated from the Aroostook State Teacher’s College. In 1938, Polly became the first Potato Blossom Queen of Aroostook County. During World War II she was employed by the FBI field office in Washington D. C. In 1943, she married Charles Parsons, her high school sweetheart and raised two children, Mary and Bud. For many years, Polly worked as the Activities Coordinator at the Presque Isle Nursing Home. After retirement, she and Charlie moved to Bangor to be closer to family. Polly and her husband were active members of the Episcopal Church of Presque Isle and Bangor. She enjoyed her weekly bridge games with her friends in Brewer and Bangor. In more recent years she has enjoyed her time at Boyd Place in Bangor sharing activities with her many friends there. Polly loved her grandson Peter and enjoyed hearing of his life in Colorado.
Polly was predeceased by her loving husband Charlie in 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Hallowell and husband David of Bangor; her son, Bud Parsons and wife Marjorie Porter of Durham; her grandson, Peter Oglivie of Steamboat Springs, CO; her best friend and sister-in-law, Sarah Sawyer; her brother-in-law Peter V. Parsons; nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, December 5, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with Rev. Marguerite A. H. Steadman, Rector, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bangor, presiding. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversations and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the service. Spring interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Those who wish to remember Polly in a special way, may make donations in her memory to Boyd Place, 21 Boyd Street, Bangor, ME 04401.
