HOLDEN Philip Eugene Howard, 84, died with his wife, Shirley, and children by his side on October 28, 2018, at Madigan Estates, Houlton, Maine. He was born July 1, 1934, the son of Joe and Anna (Givens) Howard.
Phil grew up in Island Falls. He was a member of the Island Falls Masonic Lodge #206 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years. Phil went to work for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad in 1952, and retired in 1992 as Chief Train Dispatcher.
In addition to his parents, Philip was predeceased by a son, Glenn; his sister, Judy; and stepson, Daniel Brooks. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Howard; sons, Paul (Deb) of VA, William (Tricia) of Trenton; daughters, Valerie Fitzpatrick (Mark) of Littleton, and Robin Boutilier (Hadley) of Houlton; five stepchildren, Kristie Charette (John) of Gorham, Tom Brooks (Marisha) of PA, Tim Brooks (Maureen) of CT, Julie Hersom of Bucksport, and David Brooks of Brewer; brothers, Robert Howard (Erlene) of NH, and Steven Howard (Cathy) of Bangor; sisters, Joanne Porter (Richard) of Island Falls, Joyce Merry of Sherman, Dorothy Rand of Sherman, and Mary Harris (Pete) of CT; and 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Madigan Estates for the exceptional care given to Phil in the last months of his life.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshment at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith 163 Center St., Bangor immediately following the service.
