Phyllis Parker Gray, 93, passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2022, after a period of declining health. Phyllis was born to Perley F. and Lillian (Averill) Parker on August 3, 1928, in Frankfort, Maine. She lived her entire life in Frankfort until the death of her beloved husband, Arnold E. Gray, in 2017. They shared 67 years of marriage. At the time of his death, she moved to Monroe to live with her daughter, Colleen.
Phyllis attended school in Frankfort and then attended Winterport High School, graduating in the Class of 1945. She and Arnold were married in November 1949, after his discharge from the Navy. Phyllis was an active member of the Frankfort community for many years. In 1963, she started her community service as Town Clerk, and eventually took on other responsibilities including Treasurer, Tax Collector, and Registrar of Voters. She served for 28 years until her retirement in 1991. In addition, she did all of the bookkeeping for her husband’s upholstery business. Phyllis was a talented craftswoman, creating beautiful crocheted items such as fine, intricate doilies and warm, comforting crocheted afghans for her family. She was also an excellent gardener, and her home was always surrounded by beautiful flower gardens.
Phyllis was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her three daughters: Dianna Gray Soo of Bangor; Colleen Kreps and husband, Jon, of Monroe; and Valerie Grove and husband, Brian, of Frankfort. She is survived by seven grandchildren: Alyssa Robbins and husband, Chris, of Gorham; Eric Ruttenberg and partner, Celine Mina, of Tacoma, WA; Harold Rusty Grove and wife, Amanda, of Frankfort; Pasco Grove and wife, Sarah, of Winterport; Haley Reed-Hall and husband, Adam, of Belmont; Lucas Soo and wife, Casey, of Hampden; and Katie Soo Hyatt and husband, Joe, of Bangor. Phyllis is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Jackson Robbins, Alexander Robbins, Brock Grove, Drake Grove, Autumn Reed-Hall, Ella Reed-Hall, Natalee Hyatt, and Olivia Hyatt. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her brother, Bernard Parker, and wife, Patricia; her sister Claire Parker; and a son-in-law, Noel Soo.
