Ralph Victor Wood, 68, died unexpectedly, February 20, 2014, at his home in Bucksport. Vic was born in Bangor, August 1, 1945, the son of Joseph B. and Mary Elizabeth (Dougherty) Wood.
Vic attended Brewer schools, graduating from Brewer High School in 1963, where he enjoyed all sports, including baseball and football. After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart and favorite cheerleader, Betty (Goodspeed) Wood. He attended the University of Maine at Presque Isle before joining the workforce in the automotive industry. Vic retired from the former Dave Gould Ford, where he worked for several years as the Service Manager. He presently was employed part time at Osborne's Plumbing Company, which he enjoyed very much.
Vic’s two daughters were his pride and joy. He never missed a cheerleading competition, and the family spent many summer camping trips together. Vic and Betty also enjoyed their vacations to St. Lucia, Jamaica and Cancun. Vic was a true New England Sports Fan. He cheered for the Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots equally. He loved NASCAR, and collecting all NASCAR paraphernalia, and recently took to collecting coins with his grandson, Alexander. Vic could never say no to his grandchildren, and nothing was too much to do for them. He made it a priority to make every one of Alexander’s hockey and baseball games, and never missed a chance to teach his beautiful granddaughter, Jillian, to swim and dive in the family pool and watch her field hockey games. He was always ready to tackle projects with his much-loved son-in-law, Forest.
Vic was a very giving man, a loving father and husband, and a man with infinite patience for everyone. He was the best brother his sister’s could ask for, and a dependable friend in all times of need.
Vic is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Betty Wood of Bucksport; his daughters, Kristin Briggs and her husband, Forest of Dexter, and Heather Wood of Williston, VT; beloved grandchildren, Alexander and Jillian Briggs; sisters, M. Jacqueline Donovan and her husband Bill of St. Petersburg, FL, and Michelle Wood of Hampden; his special 99 year old mother-in-law, Dorothy Brooks of Bangor; sisters-in-law Charlotte and her husband Pete Homsted, and Ellen and her husband Carl Doughty, with whom he spent many adventures fishing, hunting and canoeing; several special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and very special, close friends. He was predeceased by his parents.
Interment will be held later in the spring at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Ohio St., Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
