Raymond Dauphinee, Jr.

June 9, 1941 — November 2, 2013

BANGOR – Raymond Joseph Dauphinee, Jr., born June 9, 1941, a former athlete, Blues aficionado, and all-around great guy, died November 2, 2013. Raymond was the first of eight children born to Raymond J. and Frances E. Dauphinee, of Bangor.
Ray had a lifelong love affair with the Boston area sports teams, smooth-riding passenger cars, and billiards. His favorite pastime for decades was fishing, which required him to overcome an intense fear of drowning (he never did). In spite of living in Massachusetts for much of his adult life, he never lost his distinct “Mainer” accent, or the ability to drive like a civilized person. He cherished his many years fishing with his best friends, and their annual trips to Pleasant River Lake, in which, miraculously, none of them drowned either. He had a penchant for forty year old windbreakers and sweat pants. He was an excellent former middle linebacker, outfielder and second baseman. Ray lived his life based on deep honesty and philanthropy, and he had a refined sense of humor.
Raymond was a patriarch to his siblings, to his two daughters and to his many beloved grandchildren. He is survived by everyone who knew him well, because truly, to know him was to love him.
A Celebration of Life for Ray will be held 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Those who wish to remember Ray in a special way may make gifts in his memory to any Make-A-Wish Foundation. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
