BANGOR -Raymond Richard "Woody" Wood, 93, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor. He was born July 10, 1931, in Portland, Maine, the son of Earl Augustus and Marion (Maynard) Wood.
Ray graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1950. One month later, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He was wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart. After returning home, he married Josephine Annette Foster in June 1952 and settled in Brewer, beginning a family and 72 years of marriage.
Ray worked as a postal clerk for the USPS, retiring in 1992 after 42 years. He and Jo then moved to Lamoine. Woody had many friends and never met a person with whom he couldn't and didn't have a conversion. He and Jo enjoyed hosting their BHS classmates for reunions each summer at their home in Lamoine. He enjoyed golfing and countless hours of mowing the lawn. He especially liked spending time in the company of family, friends and neighbors.
Woody was recently predeceased by his wife, Jo. Surviving are his sons, David and his wife, Deb, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Steven and his wife, Victoria, of Bangor and Alan, of Lamoine and six grandchildren.
