CARMEL – Regina E. (Burgess) Tibbetts, 87, died April 24, 2015 at a Bangor hospital after a six-month battle with lung cancer. She was born January 1, 1928, in Bangor, the daughter of William G. A. and Alice M. (Ashford) Burgess, Sr.
Regina was educated in Bangor and Hermon schools, graduating from Hermon High School in 1945. She was the last known member of her senior class. She married Everett C. Tibbetts October 23, 1948.
She held various positions but will best be remembered as the friendly Avon lady to many loyal customers in Hermon. Her community involvement included Cub Scout den mother, Hermon PTA leadership and the Hermon School Committee. She had been an active member of Carmel Union Congregational Church and Forest Avenue Congregational Church.
In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband, Everett, Regina was predeceased by siblings William, Jr., Charles, Dorothy and Edmund; and special sisters-in-law Julia (Earle) Burgess and Valre (Charles) Burgess.
She is survived by children and spouses, Diana and David Richardson, Donna Miller and Vince Coupal, Stephen and Linda Tibbetts; grandchildren and families Tricia Richardson, Patrick and Gavin Kearns, Todd, Jennifer, Nathan and Cassidy Richardson, Peg, Joshua, Rebecca and Emma Wood, Ryan and Everett MacMullen, Lisa, Joe, Joshua, Lucas and Rachel Williams, Michelle, Richard, Meagan, Emily and Kyla Fortin, Kevin Pierson, Steven, Chrissy, Carrie and Katie McKinney; brother Earle Burgess and family, brother and wife Eugene and Donna Burgess and family; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to acknowledge close friends Nancy and Donald Dysart, Ann and Buzz Purdy and special niece and husband, Carmen and Herbert Sanborn for their constant devotion to our mother. We also thank CancerCare of Maine, EMMC Supportive Care Team and the entire staff of EMMC third floor for their excellent care, compassion and dignity provided to her.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 2pm Thursday, April 30, with the Rev. Anne Purdy officiating. Interment will be in Pine Tree Cemetery, Hermon. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the interment.
