Dick graduated from Amesbury High School in 1952. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, initially stationed in Korea. He was transferred to the Charleston Radar Station in Charleston, Maine where he met and married Janice Bickmore of Bradford in 1957.
They traveled the world including 6 years in England, which they thoroughly enjoyed, Dayton, Ohio; Biloxi, Mississippi; Battle Creek, Michigan and once again in Charleston, Maine. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 and continued his career at Charleston AFB in the civil service. When the Charleston AFB closed down in 1979 he became a professor of Electronics Engineering Technology at Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Bangor and ultimately retired as the Department Head in 1993.
Dick and Janice were happily married for 65 years enjoying Charleston / Corinth for the last 52 years. They have spent the last 22 years wintering in Tarpon Springs, Florida where Dick had a great circle of golfing friends. Dick loved to watch the New England sports teams and the Red Sox kept him entertained in his declining days. Dick was an avid computer buff and historian and spent many hours organizing family photos and researching Charleston history. He managed the Charleston Historical Society and Charleston AFS Facebook pages. He also very much enjoyed his family including his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed many golf outings with his sons and friends including trips to Sugarloaf and Belgrade Lakes.
