Richard “Dick” E. Daley, Sr., 83, husband of Kathleen “Kay” V. (Driscoll) Daley, passed away January 16, 2014 at a Bangor health care center, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Summerside, PEI, Canada, August 14, 1930, son of William E. and Marion A. (Ching) Daley.
He graduated from Brighton High School, Brighton, MA, class of 1948. Dick married Kathleen Veronica Driscoll, October 8, 1950. In November 1951, he enlisted in the USAF where he served the majority of his career with the Air Force Office of Special Investigation, (AFOSI) in the capacity of Investigative and Counter-Intelligence Superintendent, until April 1975. Upon his Air Force retirement he accepted an appointment in federal civic service, functioning as a special agent with the defense departments, defense investigative service (DIS).
Upon retirement from his civilian position, (January 1995), he was serving DIS in a dual capacity as both a special agent and as an industrial security representative.
Since his retirement, Dick has been avidly pursuing his major occupations of husband, parent and grandparent, while dabbling in other loves, such as golf, bowling, gardening and fair card playing. He enjoyed spending time in Bangor and Spring Hill, Florida.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen “Kay” Daley of Bangor; three children, Linda G. Daley and her husband Gary Cyr of Glenburn, Dick Daley and his wife Mary of Orrington, Bill Daley and his wife Carol of Prospect; seven grandchildren, Nicole Younger, Stacy Rudnicki, Jon Rudnicki, Lauren Daley, Jennifer Daley, Rachele Daley and Samantha Daley; one great grandson, Jesse Younger; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lou Nordgren.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 12 to 3 p.m. Sunday January 19, 2014 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 12 Monday. Interment with military honors will follow at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Ohio St. Bangor. Reception plans will be announced at the service.
