Richard W. Florey Sr., 73, died, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer October 13, 2013, at a local hospital. He was born May 14, 1940, in Nazareth, PA, the son of Woodrow S. and Jennie M. (Wimmer) Florey. Richard graduated from Nazareth High School, in PA. He retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years service as a fuel specialist, and then worked as a truck driver, last working at Dysarts. Richard was a fourth degree knight of the Knights of Columbus in Pine Cone Council 114. He enjoyed motorcycles, planes and trains, and was an animal lover. Richard was a hard worker, an avid family man and was always ready to help others any way he could. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol A. (Craig) Florey; his children, Craig W. M. Florey and his wife, Elena, Richard W. Florey Jr. and his wife, Beth, Christopher Florey and his wife, Debbra, Matthew Florey and his wife, Stephanie, Elizabeth McCullen and her husband, Joshua, and Melissa Chandler and her husband, Derek; grandchildren, Fabio, Francesca, Flavia, Leigh Anne, Noah, Theodore, Emmanuel and Garold; brother, Lynn Roy; sisters, Shirley Frey and Joni Sule; aunts, Elizabeth, Fran and Ann; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two infant children, grandchildren, Robin and Therese; brother, Francis Florey; and step sister, Sharon. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Friday, October 18, 2013, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John Roman Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn, following the Mass.
