Brewer and Bangor – Richard E. Goodness, 71, passed away August 22, 2019, at Eastern Maine Medical Center. He was born August 6, 1948, in Bangor, the son of Paul and Barbara (Dinsmore) Goodness.
Richard graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1966. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Air Force where he learned how to be a boiler fireman. After leaving the service Richard continued to be a boiler fireman, primarily at the University of Maine at Orono. He married Katherine Hilt and settled in Brewer. They celebrated 41 years of marriage last year.
Richard was an active and very well respected member of St. Andrew Lodge #83 AF & AM of Bangor, Scottish Rite Bodies Valleys of Bangor and Portland, 32o Maine Consistory, Annah Shriners and the Provost Guard. He was also the Lodge Historian of St. Andrews Lodge, served on the Grand Lodge Committee on Youth, a member of the Finance Committee of the Valley of Bangor, a member of the Make Up Artist Committee Scottish Rite, and served as Rite Worshipful District Depurty from 1995-1997. Richard was a member of Seminary Hill Lodge #220 AF & AM of Bangor and the North Star Lodge #22 AF & AM Prince Hall Masons. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed woodworking.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Katherine. Richard is survived by his son, Joshua, of Winterport; and his sister, Martha Goodness, of Bangor.
This soft spoken man will be missed by all.
A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2019, by the officers and members of St. Andrews Lodge and the North Star Lodge Prince Hall Masons, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment with military honors will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family invite relatives and friends to share conversations and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, following the interment.
