WINTERPORT – Richard Hamor, Sr., 92, passed away peacefully March 3,
2019 at home, surrounded by family after a brief illness. He was born
September 29, 1926 in Seal Harbor, Maine, the son of Walter L. and
Evelyn (Libby) Hamor.
Richard graduated from Winterport High School in 1944. He was a U.S.
Army World War II veteran. After his military service he attended the
University of Maine where he won the Merritt Caldwell Fernald Scholarship
for being the highest ranking junior in the College of Agriculture.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his wife of 51
years, Celeste (Rancourt); son, Richard, Jr.; sisters, Marion and Virginia;
and his brother, Walter. He is survived by his daughters, Holly Brown and
husband, John of Winterport, and Regina Mitchell and husband, Brett of
Bass Harbor; brother, Maurice Hamor of Brunswick; grandchildren,
Christopher Hamor and wife, Vickey, Cher Norton, John Mitchell and wife,
Elean, and Theresa Mitchell and her partner, Jacob Butler; plus 11 great-
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would especially like to thank Northern Light Homecare and
Hospice for their care of Richard.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday,
March 6, 2019 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45
Western Ave, Hampden, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with
the Rev. David Gardiner, Chaplain of Northern Light Homecare and
Hospice, officiating. Spring Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery,
