Richard Allen Hart Sr., 82, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022, at home with his family by his side. He was born February 22, 1940 in Beverly, Mass., the son of Everett M. and Doris (Comeau) Hart.
Richard was a very hard worker from the start. Growing up he worked at Brooks Bricks in Brewer stacking bricks, then worked for 15 years for the Brewer Water District, while volunteering as a Call-Fireman for the Brewer Fire Department, where during that time he met the love of his life, Sharon. They were married in February of 1961 and raised 5 boys. In 1973, Richard and Sharon bought the Colony Motel and ran the family business for over 35 years, with countless adventures along the way; from yearly trips to Disney, to weekends at camp, and watching his kids and grandkids at their sporting events. He also found time to squeeze in many years of working for Maine Energy as well as working with his son, Steve, building for 18 years. Some of his absolute favorite pastimes were his weekly poker games, occasional trips to the casino, and his cross country road trips with Sharon to anywhere and everywhere. Richard could always be found with a deck of cards in his hand playing solitaire, or 5 card poker! As an avid coin collector, Richard never met a penny he didn’t like!
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sharon (Clough) Hart of Brewer; his children, Richard Jr. and Wendy Hart of Winterport, Steve and Lynn Hart of Brewer, Michael and Lorna Hart of Brewer, David Hart Sr. of Brewer, and Robert and Carly Hart of Land O’ Lakes, FL.; 14 grandchildren, Amanda and Matthew Nelson, Adam and Kirsten Hart, Andrew and Sasha Hart, Heather and Michael Corbett, Erica and Andrew Jackson, Kristi and Brandon Carney, Kyle Alexander and Molly Chapman, Joshua Hart, Jessica Hart and Tyler McCannell, David Jr. and Casee Hart, Jennifer and Matthew King, Emily Hart, Courtney Thomas and Timothy Dowd, and Kaitlyn Hart; 12 great-grandchildren, Ariana Nelson, Ava, Carter, Milo, and Lenix Hart, Lydia and Owen Corbett, Mila Jackson, Madison and Allison Carney, and Blake and Macee Hart; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his mother in-law, Alberta Clough, his sister Elinor Simons, brother and sister in-law, Everett and Eleanor Hart, and sister-in law and brother in-law, Jeanette and Morgan Grindle.
