Richard “Rick” P. Ozog, 68, went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2022, after a sudden illness, in Bangor Maine, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 4, 1953, in Waltham, Mass the son of Julius and Lena (Lech) Ozog.
Rick is survived by his wife Nancy (Jordan) Ozog, and their three children: Julia Ozog and her partner Chris Pienta of Hyde Park, Massachusetts, James Ozog of Portland, Maine, and Jennifer Ozog of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his two sisters in law: Margaret Jordan of Roanoke Virginia, and Susan Jordan and her husband John Fabish, of Bedford, Virginia, and many cousins and dear friends. Rick was predeceased by his parents, father Julius Ozog of Franklin NH, mother Lena (Lech) Ozog of Chicopee MA, and brother John Ozog of Tilton NH. Rick was proud to be 100 % Polish/American, and was able to visit his cousins near Krakow, Poland, the year he turned 60.
Rick grew up in Waltham MA, Long Island NY, Silver Spring MD, and Holliston MA. He graduated from Plymouth State NH, with a degree in geography and cartography. He worked at various jobs before moving to Virginia in 1982 to work at the Defense Mapping Agency, producing nautical charts for our armed services. He and Nancy met this same year.
Rick moved with his growing family to Bangor Maine in 1993 so he could pursue a master’s degree in geographic information systems at University of Maine, and to be closer to his parents. After graduating he worked at the Eastern Maine Development Corporation. He stopped working for a period of time to be a full-time caregiver to his parents. About 14 years ago, he started working at Maritime International, where he was able to share his passion for collecting for numismatics, philately, and American history. He was still working up until the end of January this year, when he became ill.
Rick had many interests and hobbies, including collecting antique maps, flying small airplanes after getting his private pilot license almost 30 years ago, computer programming, playing several instruments over the years, including drums, saxophone, electric bass, classical guitar, and most recently, viola, which he played with the University of Maine student orchestra as community member, sailing, hiking, and was a proud member for almost 25 years of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 12, serving as Flotilla Commander and other roles over the years.
Rick had a deep faith in God, and was very compassionate. He was a great animal lover, and had many wonderful pets over the years. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
