Richard Smith

Glenburn - Richard "Dick" Francis Smith, 81, passed away peacefully at home March 29, 2024. He was born April 19, 1942, in Washington D.C., the son of James Edgar and Florence (Kane) Smith.
Dick grew up in the D.C. area and worked in local printing shops. In 1964, he met his first wife, Rhoda Smith (Morehead), and moved back to her home state of Maine. They went on to have three children, Debbie, Jim, and Cathy.
He continued his career in printing by joining the Bangor Daily News in 1966 and retired from there in 1997. It was there that he met and fell in love with his second wife, Loann Green. Expanding their love of garden, together they opened their greenhouse, Glenburn Gardens. They enjoyed meeting new friends and sharing their knowledge of agriculture with the three generations that grew up there. Dick also enjoyed, hunting, fishing and the many trips he took with his buddies.
Dick is survived by his children, Debbie and her husband, Mike Moody, of Brooks, Jim and his wife, Jody Smith, of Brewer, Cathy Smith of Portsmouth NH, and stepson, Jim and his wife, Stacy Green, of Etna He is also survived by five grandchildren, Travis Smith, Devan and Troy Moody, Hannah Smith and Jimmy Green; along with great-grandchildren, Allison, Jace, and Henry; and many nieces and nephews. Dick will also be missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Virgil; as well as his two dear friends who became family, Becky and Dennis. Dick was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Pat, Mike, and Don; and his very special cousin, Margo.
Burial arrangements and services will be private. The family asks that anyone looking to pay respects to please donate to any local charity of your choice.
