BANGOR – Richard “Dick” Mason Smith, 82, passed away July 27, 2021, after a brief stay at a Bangor hospital. He was born January 4, 1939, in Bangor, the son of Elmer G. and Marjorie E. (Mason) Smith.
Dick was a well-known, lifelong resident of Bangor. He graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1958. He played on the football team and loved the game. He was employed at Grants Dairy and later, Bangor Hydro Electric where he retired after 25 years. Dick will be remembered for his unique laugh, his love of sports, his brief visits with friends and family, and eagerness to talk. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years. Dick had celebrated thirty years of sobriety and had become an advocate for sobriety. He was a proud father of three boys.
Dick is survived by his sister and close friend, Sandra Hallett; sons, Richard “Ricky” Smith and his wife, Belinda, Christopher “Chris” Smith and his wife, Lisa, David Smith and his wife, Deanna; grandsons, Ted, Shawn, Mason, Tim, Dan, Nicholas, and Brandon; niece, Hollie; and great-granddaughter, Eloise. He was predeceased by his parents. Dick will be lovingly missed by all who knew him including many close and caring friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., in Bangor, following the interment.
