Hermon - Richard M. Stewart, 77, died after a long illness, July 24, 2023, in Brewer. He was born November 11, 1945, in Bangor, the son of Carl and Elizabeth (Birmingham) Stewart.
Rick graduated from Old Town High School, class of 1964. Following graduation, he attended the University of Maine at Orono where he received his Associate's Degree. He then worked 11 years at the Water Treatment Facility in Brewer. After that, he went back to school and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Business Administration. Over the years, he worked as a security officer at the Champion Mill in Bucksport, for the TSA and also as a Police Officer in Old Town, Orono, and for the University of Maine. He was a jack-of-all-trades and was also a general contractor. Rick loved to work with his hands. His hobbies were painting, carving and he was a skilled blacksmith. He loved to hunt and fish and just enjoyed nature. Rick was also a member of the Rising Virtue Lodge #10 A.F. & A.M. of Bangor.
Rick is survived by his wife, Barbara Koster Stewart of Hermon; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Enga Stewart of Augusta; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Robert Treat of Winterport; his son, Charles Stewart of Bangor; and his nephews and their wives, Jonathan and Barbara Stewart of Bangor and Gregory and Kristina Stewart of Augusta. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Elizabeth; and his late wife, Janet.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Essex St. Baptist Church, 82 Essex St., Bangor with the Rev. Forrest Genthner, pastor officiating. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted by the officers and members' of the Rising Virtue Lodge. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately following the service in the fellowship hall at the church.
