BANGOR – A good man died May 4, 2020, due to complications while recovering from a fall this winter. Dick Valentine took his last breath at home. His wife of 51 years, Skippy, was holding his hand during the last moments of his life on earth. He was blessed with the daily presence of family who live right next door; his only daughter, Cathy Van Dolman; son-in-law, Steve; and his two beloved grandchildren, Heather and Jackson. He adored his grandkids and he was happiest when he was with them.
Dick was the oldest of four, and leaves behind two brothers, Kipp and Fred; and a sister, Mary; all of whom live in South Carolina. At the age of 74 years young, he lived a full and happy life, first in Connecticut, where he was born, then in Maine from 1970 on. For the last 49 years, Dick enjoyed living and playing on Pushaw Lake. He loved his home there and all that lake-like had to offer. He had many blessings to count, including a circle of long-time friends who were very dear, loyal, and patient! He shared many times of good fun, fishing, hunting, and other adventures with them over the years. He died with a wealth of good memories.
Out family is so grateful for the exceptional care Dick received from Kindred Home Health and Kindred Hospice. The competent, compassionate support of their staff was precious and made Dick’s struggle and transition as smooth as possible.
Those who wish to honor Dick in a special way may make a donation in his memory to My Friend’s Place, 703 Essex Street, Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com
