HAMPDEN – Robert D. Chaput, 85, passed away January 3, 2020 at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born May 8, 1934 in Lewiston, Maine, the son of George V. and Helen (Saucier) Chaput. Robert graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1952. Following graduation he served in the Air Force for fourteen years. He served in England, Japan, Okinawa, the Philippines and Vietnam. Upon separation from the Air Force, Robert graduated college from the University of California at Sacramento. In 1956 he married and had three daughters. This marriage terminated. Robert returned to Maine and worked for Texaco, Inc. Robert and Donna met at his parents’ and married six months later. They celebrated 49 years of a very happy marriage during which time he spent 14 years in the Army Reserves. Robert spent many loyal years in York Rite and Scottish Rite Masonry. He was a Most Illustrious Grand Sovereign of the Red Cross of Constantine and 33 Scottish Rite Mason. Robert also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are his loving wife, Donna and his two daughters. He had eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Commandery Memorial Service will be held 1pm Thursday, January 16 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor conducted by the past and present officers of the Grand Commandery, Knights Templar of Maine, followed by Military Honors.
