Robert Dawes

Bangor - Robert V. Dawes, 71, of Bangor, formerly of Livermore, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, at his residence following a short illness. He was born June 5, 1951, in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Wilfred and Margaret (Moorhead) Dawes. He attended school in Massachusetts through middle school and then his family moved to Maine. He was a 1969 graduate of Farmington High School, following high school he attended Central Maine Vocational Institute in Auburn, earning his certification in automotives. He worked as a mechanic for many years in the Turner area, then for the City of Bangor for 18 years as an equipment director.

On June 21, 1975, in Turner, he married Lucy Poland. They enjoyed many years together making their home and raising their family. They eventually separated but reunited after a few years. Together they share their home with their granddaughter, Mykayla. Bob was a member of the Whitney Lodge #167 in Canton, Maine, former board member of the Penobscot Community Health Center as well as a former AYS (Area Youth Sports) coach and board member in Livermore. Bob had a love of racing that began when he was a member of the Earl Jone's pit crew at Oxford Plains Speedway where he met his wife, Lucy. He was an avid NASCAR and football fan, but more than anything he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Dawes and granddaughter Mykayla of Bangor, his brother Dennis Dawes and wife Kim of Belgrade, his in-laws; Dan Poland and wife Linda, Charlie Poland and wife Brenda, Wesley Poland and wife Belinda, Doug Poland, Ellen Poland Shaw, Eloise Poland, Muriel Poland, Anna Bragdon, and Heidi Daigle, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Eric Dawes in 2011, and his daughter Jennifer Dawes Gomm in 2018.

Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, at Brookings-Smith Funeral Home, 133 Center Street, Bangor, Maine. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, December 19, at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
