Bob ‘Bondo’ Filanowski, 72, passed away unexpectedly on September 21, 2024 at his home in Hampden. He was born on March 4, 1952 in Milford, CT., the son of Joe and Mary Louise (Oliver) Filanowski.
Bob dedicated 56 years to the autobody industry, retiring from Downeast Autobody after 33 years of service. He found that retirement was not for him and he had more to contribute to the industry, so he got on board with Moody’s and commandeered building a shop to accommodate heavy duty vehicles. He was location leader for Moody’s HD. This was very much a labor of love that grew rapidly, so much so that Moody’s HD south is in the process of building.
Bob had many hobbies in his spare time. He loved to cook with his wife, smoking many different dishes outdoors, especially kielbasa. He was an avid sportsman; fly fishing, bottom fishing, and hunting with his brother and friends. He took great pride in whatever he did, especially keeping his lawn coiffed and hanging flowers on his porch, where he and his wife spent many hours drinking coffee and watching cars go by.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by brother, Joe; and sister, Mary Jo. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Christi Filanowski; daughter, Carly Ann Filanowski; brother, Michael Filanowski and his wife, Sheri, of Milford, CT.; sister-in-law, Nancy Doehrer of Sanford, ME.; nephew and godson, Joseph Filanowski; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews from Connecticut to Maine. He also leaves behind a faithful companion, his lab, Gauge.
Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to Lafayette Family Cancer Center C/O Northen Light Heath Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 2 to 5pm, Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with a service to follow immediately at 5pm. Services in Bob’s hometown of Milford, CT. will be announced at a later date.
