Robert A. Gallant
Old Town
Robert Arthur Gallant (Bob) was born on August 13, 1941 to Raymond and Florence (Dumont) Gallant in Skowhegan, Maine. After his father died when he was 5 months old, he lived with his grandparents on their farm for most of his childhood.

He left school in Jr. high to move to Kentucky with his mother and stepfather. Skowhegan was calling his name and he realized he had just enough money to get back home. He came back to be with his girlfriend, Ginny. They were married 3 years later. He got a job at Norwork Shoe Co. and lived with his cousin until marrying Ginny in 1960. They had 2 children before moving to Old Town in 1966 to work at the Moose River Shoe Co. as the Quality Control person.

In 1978 Bob joined the supervisory committee for Penobscot Federal Credit Union after many years of service he joined the Board of Directors. In 2021 he retired from his role at the Credit Union.

They made many friends through the K C's after joining St. Joseph's church in Old Town. He worked at other shoe companies until joining Quality Glass in Old Town as a salesman. He was an Electrolux Salesman for several years before going to work at OHI in Bangor, retiring from there in 2008. He operated his own business selling both vacuums and windows for 30+ years. He enjoyed selling, as he had a personality that made him enjoy interacting with people of all walks of life.

Bob was easy going and always willing to help in any situation where he saw a need, from working the KC bingos to painting the pews at their new spiritual home at The Church of Universal Fellowship which they joined in 2003. They were welcomed by the community there and loved it. He was on the Property Committee and Trustees and pitched in whenever something needed to be fixed or going to Sam's to pick up food for the Food Cupboard at an Orono school.

He was very sociable and loved card games of all sorts and even traveling to Bucksport twice a week in the winter to play poker at the Senior Citizen Center. He was the best of husbands always ready to go on a road trip Ginny planned and remolding their home many times. He loved camping starting in 1976 traveling the state of Maine and New Hampshire, until they became seasonal campers in 2009.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ginny, his two children Darrell Gallant of Skowhegan and Cindy Woodard & partner Charles Loring of Old Town.
