Robert Gould

July 11, 1921 — April 13, 2016

Stetson – SMS Robert Henry Gould, USAF, RET., 94, died after a brief illness April 13, 2016. He was born July 11, 1921, in Abington, MA, the son of Henry P. and Ina A. (Allen) Gould.

Bob grew up in Abington, MA, and after graduating from Abington High School, class of 1939, he attended Brockton Business College for one year. He then took a job working for the Atlantic Refining Company for several years. Bob enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 on his 21st birthday. He was discharged in February 1946, and was employed by Gulf Oil in Brewer. Bob returned to active duty in 1950, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant from the US Air Force in 1967.

He was a Mason for 54 years, a member of Washington Lodge #4, in Vancouver WA; an associate member of St. James Lodge #102 in Hampton, NH; and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in Brewer. Bob enjoyed sports, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He also loved to go fishing.

In addition to his parents and 2 sisters, Bob was predeceased by his wife Muriel (Greenwood) in October, 2004, and longtime friend and companion Gertrude Jones of Seabrook, NH. He is survived by his daughter, with whom he resided, Traci Fox and husband Steven, of Stetson, ME; grandson Christopher Gould and granddaughter Tina Fox; and 7 great grandchildren.

A memorial service, with military honors will be held 1:00pm Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service.
