Robert Lee Greener, 87, passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 23, 2020. He was born January 30, 1933, in Lamar, Arkansas, the son of Claude and Attice (Hendrix) Greener.
Robert served his country in the U. S. Air Force obtaining rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a Korean War Veteran and was stationed in England and Maine. Robert received a Bachelor’s Degree from Central Bible College, and two Master’s Degree, one from New York University and the other from Stony Brook University. He worked as an Elementary School Teacher in Long Island, NY, for the Middle County School District. Robert was a devoted husband and father. He was a devout Christian and loved studying the Bible. Robert did missionary work in New York City with his wife Joyce. He loved gardening, nature, beekeeping, taking long walks, sharing wisdom from the word of God and loved being with fellow Christians at church worshipping his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Robert marched every year with Korean War Veterans in the Bangor Memorial Day Parade and Veterans Day Parade. He loved reading books to his grandchildren and always had words of encouragement for everyone he met. He was a career educator, who shared his love of learning with his students through good books, outdoor creative learning, field trips, and his warm caring presence.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; children, Calvin and wife Patti, Stuart and wife Christie; Robin; siblings, Charles, Sue, Donald, and Glenda; nineteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Stephen; and a sister, Jacqueline.
Friends may call from 10 – 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 29, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, followed by a funeral service being held at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta, at a later date. Please be mindful of others by practicing social distancing, wearing a face mask, that staff will be conducting contact tracing, and be aware that the number of people allowed in the chapel at one time is limited.
