Robert James Jordan

Robert James Jordan, 85, passed peacefully into the loving arms of his Savior on January 31, 2025, at home under the care of family and hospice nurses. He was born in New Britain, Connecticut, July 28, 1939, to Robert Andrew and Avis Harriet DeVere Jordan. He married Valerie Thompson in 1964. She was deceased in 1987. He later married Edie Anderson in 1999.
Bob graduated University of Maine with a degree in engineering physics and minor in electrical engineering in 1961 and was employed for the United States Navy civil service at Patuxent River Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Lexington Park, Maryland. He also spent time working for RCA on weapons defense systems and then returned to Navy civil service at Patuxent River for 41 years, during which time he pursued graduate studies in electrical engineering at the University of Maryland.
He served as technical consultant to the Research and Technology Group Naval Air Test Center developing telemetry processing systems. He was known at Patuxent River for superior technical capability and work ethic providing state of the art technology solutions to solve hardware problems and possessed unique expertise in microprocessor systems and digital technology development. He served as technical support consultant for research and design development of high technology instrumentation and data systems. He also served as design engineer at Chesapeake Test Range and systems architect for Coast Guard Vessel Traffic systems. He was awarded several patents for his inventions. After retirement from Navy civil service, he spent two years as consultant for a defense contractor.
He had a great love of music and was an accomplished musician and as a high school student played first chair trumpet with Bangor Symphony Orchestra
Bob was a licensed pilot and took pleasure in flying his Piper Archer airplane and in younger years driving his 1960 Corvette. He treasured time spent at the Jordan camp on Green Lake in Ellsworth with family and friends, and enjoyed time after retirement traveling throughout Canada, England, Alaska and numerous parts of the US with his wife Edie. He was a master woodworker and spent many hours in his workshop crafting furniture and unique art boxes made from exotic woods, which he gave as gifts to family and friends.
He served in Gideons International Ministry for 49 years in prison ministry, area director, camp president, bible distribution at schools, colleges, and to soldiers heading out to Operation Desert Storm. He faithfully served the Lord as deacon, discipleship training director, Sunday school superintendent, sound technician, usher, finance director and treasurer in several churches.
He was predeceased by his parents, first wife Valerie and son Mark and sister Phyllis Jordan.
He is survived by his wife Edie, son Paul (Lori) Jordan, daughters Jacqueline Stancliff and Andrea Jordan, step-sons Matthew (Sarah) Anderson and Marc Anderson, grandchildren Adrienne Dronenburg, Eric Stancliff, Nathaniel and Kayla Jordan, Jessica Ruleman, step-granddaughter Mila Anderson, four great-grandchildren, sister Miriam (David) King and several nieces and nephews.
A service will be held Friday February 7th at Hermon Baptist Church, 2496 Route 2, Hermon, ME, with visitation at 2 PM and service at 3 PM with a reception following the service. Service will be live streamed on the Hermon Baptist Church website hbc.me.
