HAMPDEN, MAINE – Robert Thad “Beanie” Johnson, 73, was born in Bangor, Maine on April 7, 1951; the son of Robert Gerald Johnson & Frances (Giles) Johnson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marisa Johnson; daughters, Lauren Crowley and her husband Duncan, Rachel Howard and her husband Jimmy and Jaime Johnson; seven grandchildren, Sera, James, Henry, Olivia, Miles, Louis & Theo; sisters, Judy Hider and her husband Phil and Deborah Haley; sister in law, Pamela Johnson; brother, Steven Johnson; nieces and nephews, Andy, Nick, Kevin, Kristen, Jacob, Chelsea & Erika and mother in law, Julia Rothermel. In addition to his parents, Beanie was predeceased by his oldest brother, Jeffrey Johnson.
Beanie graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1969, and went on to attend Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute; what is now known as, Eastern Maine Community College. He began his career of over 30 years as a Machinist at Osram Sylvania in Bangor. He then continued on as a Machinist at General Electric in Bangor, until he retired.
Beanie will be fondly remembered with a big smile on his face and his dog by his side. He cherished quality time with his family and many friends; he worked hard and enjoyed life. Beanie was a skilled cribbage player, bowler, water skier, golfer, pool player, horseshoe player, snowmobiler, fisherman & gardener. He taught his children & his grandchildren how to do many practical things in life, to enjoy the outdoors, to be honest & helpful, to work hard and laugh a lot. His home state of Maine was his favorite place to be and as he enjoyed his retirement, you would often find him in his workshop, warmly welcoming those who stopped by to say hello, playing cribbage, enjoying an ice-cold beer and watching sports games. He cherished Saturday date nights with his wife, hosting Wednesday cribbage games, taking his dog, Ollie, to the dog park and relaxing by the lake, where he would often, “sit and watch the world go by.”
