GREEN LAKE and BREWER - Robert “Bob” Adams Kenney, Sr., beloved husband, father and brother, passed peacefully from this life at dawn on December 1, 2015, in the arms of his true love and wife of 40 years, Mary, and surrounded by his family. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Bob was born on February 28, 1935, the son of Eleanor and James Kenney. He was raised in Bangor. After attending Maine Maritime Academy, he served four years in the Air Force. On his return to Maine, he joined the family construction and brick masonry business that had been passed down from his grandfather to his father, AR Kenney and Sons. In 1986, he founded Kenney and Sullivan Masonry with his friend, Ken Sullivan. His son, Jim, worked with him in the business. Many structures throughout the state of Maine bear his expert craftsmanship.
A man’s life can be defined by how and where he chooses to spend his free time and energy. Bob’s life was defined by his love for friends and family. Bob's great passion in life was sharing time with loved ones; with his family at the camp he built with his father on Green Lake, the backwoods of northern Maine hunting and fishing with his cousins, Ronald and Rodney and his brother-in-law, Bob Gammons, or even hunting in Montana and other western states with his brother-in-law Dennis. He found much joy traveling with Mary. They enjoyed time in California visiting Bud and Tulay and family and on Caribbean vacations with Deborah and Lance.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; children Sean Kenney (Sarah Delano) of Bangor, Jim Kenney (Kathy Foster) of Calais, Brenda McLeary of Bradley, Robert Kenney Jr. (Erica) of San Antonio, Texas, Chris Kenney (Jolean) of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Jeff Crockett (Elina) of Cranston, Rhode Island; sisters Janis Bulger (Joe Tull) of Wimauma, Florida and Frances Gammons (Bob) of Bangor; his family of in-laws, Betty Furrow of Bangor, Carol Cross (Dennis) of Orono, Deborah Tara (Lance) of Green Lake, Bud Furrow (Tulay) of San Ramon, California; Howa Furrow (Rose Casement) of Bangor, Troy Furrow of Bangor; eleven grandchildren, one great grandson, many nieces and nephews, and numerous cherished friends. Bob took great joy in all of these relationships. He was predeceased by his parents and his cousins, Ronald and Rodney Kenney.
Relatives and friends are invited to an informal gathering 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the Fellowship Hall of the Calvary Baptist Church, 61 State Street, Brewer. Those who wish to remember Bob in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Benevolent Fund of the Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, 5705 Grant Creek Road, Missoula, MT 59808.
